A modern and fresh site which puts Great Britain’s Olympic athletes at the heart of its proposition, with deeper and richer data and information than ever before.
The site provides a better user experience with faster load times and a more responsive platform, providing greater depth of information, articles and data, and a richer video platform for users wishing to navigate the British Olympic Association’s comprehensive collection of archive footage and contemporary features.
For the first time on the Team GB platform, this will include all 6,000+ British and Northern Irish Olympians since 1896, providing complete profiles and historical data for each athlete.
Team GB isn’t just a team, it is a fantastic representation of what is great about our society, bringing together a diverse, multi-cultural group of athletes from across the UK. It is their individual stories that collectively tell the Team GB story all the way back to our inception in 1905.
Success, failure, the dramatic win to the ever-so-nearly. Stories of determination, endeavour and sacrifice that led to those extraordinary moments of achievement that will live forever.
Athletes first means putting the athlete at the heart of the experience. Increasing their visibility across all parts of the site, bringing them closer to the fans and creating a vehicle for telling their stories.
Visually linking athletes to articles, sports, Olympic Games and historic moments allows Team GB to make human connections between the people behind these extraordinary moments that make up British Olympic achievements dating back to the first ever Games in Athens in 1896.
Since the first Olympic Games in 1896, over 6,000 athletes have represented their country and in a unique first, Team GB’s platform will be showcasing these athletes with complete profiles and historical data.
Utilising the IOC’s sports data warehouse, the new Team GB site can access a variety of historical data for both athlete and team performances across all Olympic Games and sports since the beginning of the modern Olympic Games.
The project was initially split into three phases – pre-Games, Games time and post-Games, however, due to the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the release plan needed to be adapted.
The initial release of the project defined the underlying structure of the new site with a focus on content driven features – news articles, video, an out-of-Games homepage and sports profiles.
Post-Games focused on the data layer, historical content, athlete profiles and an advanced search system.
The Games time focus was to bring to life the buzz of the Games, combining live and varied content delivery formats with live data features – including Games time homepage, medal tables and schedules.
