Designed to meet the needs of Rangers FC’s fans, partners and stakeholders, the new site is the first stage of this strategic journey, which aims to increase fan engagement, international growth and commercial performance through an enhanced suite of unified digital products.
A series of discovery sessions and fan workshops allowed us to pinpoint stakeholder needs and refine the club’s digital strategy, defining a new dual-aspect proposition - Where we belong.
The two sides of the proposition mirror the club’s goals - create a sense of family and belonging by giving the fans a home they can be proud of and enhance commercialisation and sponsorship opportunities across the digital estate, with the goal of aiding the club’s drive to get back into the elite ranks of football.
The site’s bold and contemporary visual style is the embodiment of the club’s new brand identity which includes the use of a bespoke typeface shaped from the heritage of the legendary Ibrox.
Working in parallel with Rangers’ branding agency, Kilmarnock based See Saw and typographer and life-long Rangers fan, Craig Black, we helped bring the emerging brand position to life for a digital audience.
With the club’s strategic goals in mind, the site was restructured to bring key sections to the fore, placing a greater emphasis on fan favourites and commercially focussed sections. This, combined with an emphasis on accessibility standards has led to a streamlined user experience that places Rangers FC head and shoulders above the competition.
Built on top of Stadion’s Publishing Hub v2 and powered by headless CMS Contentful, the new site forms a key part of Rangers’ drive to implement an industry-leading transformation strategy which is fully aimed at supporting the club’s continued growth.
With a mobile first approach, the site is optimised for the best performance in all modern devices. Lightweight with fast load times, it leverages a powerful dynamic image sizing CDN, cached apis of simplified layers of detailed stats, team and player data and instant publishing with dynamic caching with Cloudflare.
Under the hood, it utilises a powerful and robust componentised architecture built with .NET Core and React JS to create a powerful hybrid of backend and front end technologies delivering the right content at the right time to the user in the most efficient manner.
