AFC Bournemouth

Bringing an evolving brand to life

Time to launch
12 weeks

In early 2017 we partnered with AFC Bournemouth to create a new home for a team on the crest of a meteoric rise.

Designed to meet the needs of their fans, partners and stakeholders, the new site met with universal praise and excitement, exceeding the expectations of fans and stakeholders alike.

The bold and contemporary visual style, rich and engaging content and ease of use has led to enhanced fan engagement and increased commercial performance, the key drivers for the project.

The details

For the fans

The new site was shaped by the fans, for the fans. A series of workshops allowed us to get to the heart of what Cherries fans want; with accessibility, relevance and simplicity as the cornerstones of the new site.

Commercialisation

Increasing commercial capabilities was a key driver for the club. With our key principle of sponsorship not advertising, we created a suite of promotional modules, sponsor-able components and a system of content cross-fertilisation. It’s given AFC Bournemouth’s team attractive tools to increase commercial returns and attract new partners.

Branding

When we began our partnership with AFC Bournemouth their in-house design team were in the early stages of creating a bold new visual language for the club. We collaborated with them to realise this new direction and extend it into the digital space.

Combined with the stunning photography of in-house photographers Amy Maidment & Robin Jones and a determination to move away from the standard imagery associated with football clubs, this gives AFC Bournemouth a refreshingly bold visual style.

Accessibility

It is our belief that accessibility is not a feature, it is a necessity. AFC Bournemouth have shown great determination to get the best provision possible for their disabled supporters, both around the ground and online.

We held sessions with their disabled supporters group to determine what’s really important to them, where there are difficulties and how we can best service their needs across the site. The result is a highly inclusive digital experience for all, with a minimum AA level of accessibility, keyboard navigation, screen-reader optimisation and audio match commentary feeds.
